How to turn a video into a ringtone

Updated: October 2026

Filmed a moment at a concert, your kid laughing, or a line you want to hear on every call? SnipRing takes the sound from the video and makes it a ringtone, straight from your gallery.

How to do it

  1. Open snipring.com and tap Choose a song or video.
  2. On iPhone choose Photo Library; on Android choose Gallery or Files, and pick the video.
  3. SnipRing pulls out the sound and shows the waveform. Choose the part, up to 29.5 seconds.
  4. Tap Create ringtone. On iPhone: Set as ringtone → Use as Ringtone. On Android: Download MP3, then Settings → Ringtone.

Tips for a good result

Pick a part where the sound is clear without much background noise. Keep Even out volume on (under Advanced settings) so the ringtone is loud enough.

Your video is never uploaded: the sound is extracted in your browser, on your phone.

Frequently asked questions

Which videos work?

Videos from your phone camera (MP4 or MOV) usually work. Files over 400MB are too large, so trim the video in your gallery first.

Can I use a YouTube or TikTok video?

Only if it's yours. SnipRing doesn't download videos from websites. You need a file you recorded or have the right to use.

The video won't open. What now?

Try exporting it again from your gallery, or sending it to yourself as a file. If that still fails, try another video or an MP3 file.
